Deerubbin Architecture Conference March 2014
Deerubbin Conference a Huge Success
Uncle Max Dulumunmun Harrison welcoming over 110 participants to the first Architecture Foundation Australia 'Deerubbin' Conference on Milson Island on the Hawkesbury River north of Sydney. 'Deerubbin' is the Aboriginal name for the Hawkesbury River, meaning "deep and wide water". The conference exceeded all expectations and has set a pattern for future events. Guest speakers included Niall McLaughlinn from Ireland and London, Sofie Willems from Belgium and Denmark (Glenn Murcutt Master Class participant 2007) and Joan Ruan Nielsen of Spektrum Arkitekter, New Zealand architects Dave Strachan (GMMC 2002) and Nick Bevin, leading Australian architects Lindsay and Kerry Clare, Rachel Neeson, and Michael Heenan of AJ+C, designer of the fabulous sports building in the picture. Our 'masters' Richard Leplastrier and Peter Stutchbury also gave presentations.
The event was 'convened' and organised by Lindsay Johnston. For information on all OZ.E.TECTURE educational events, see - www.ozetecture.org
