Extreme Stutchbury

Peter Stutchbury Architecture - now built December 2011, the winning entry in the 2008 Living Steel International Competition for Extreme Climate Housing in Cherepovets, Russia

Over 1000 architects entered the competition 'to create an energy efficient single-family home'. The design had not only to minimise climate change emissions but, given the location, stand up to extreme climatic conditions. Design by Peter Stutchbury with Richard Smith and Ann Bassett

"The location was almost the polar opposite of the Australian environment. Designing for our local environment is based on how you cool a building. In Cherepovets and the wider Russian extreme, it's just the opposite."

Peter Stutchbury tutors on Australian Master Classes with Glenn Murcutt and the new book on his work 'Under the Edge' is on sale.
