Farewell ATH

Zac Athfield, son of 'Ath' and Clare, addressing the farewell gathering at Amritsar, their 'mountain village' settlement, home and office in Wellington, New Zealand

It was with shock and great sadness that we learned of the sudden death on 16 January 2015 of our dear friend and colleague Ian Athfield or, we should say, Sir Ian Charles Athfield KNZM, as he received a knighthood in the 2015 New Year New Zealand honours. ‘Ath’, as he is universally known, died unexpectedly in hospital under anaesthetic, following a battle with cancer.

The Architecture Foundation Australia was represented at the funeral on 23 January by Lindsay Johnston, and Richard Leplastrier attended the Memorial Service in Wellington on Sunday 1 February. Peter Stutchbury was on a lecturing tour in India, and was unable to attend.

We will miss him so much.
