Glenn Murcutt 80YO

We were quietly celebrating Glenn's 80th birthday last week. It was on Monday 25 July, born in London in 1936. The photo is of a birthday cake, made for him by the Islamic community in Melbourne, for whom he has designed the new mosque. The photo is apparently in icing sugar. The mosque is due to open in October, the exhibition 'Architecture of Faith' opens at the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) this weekend 6 August, and both look like being sensational. This will be Glen

n's biggest building, and he says "I do enjoy this project so greatly and the people so greatly. For me it is one of the great joys of my practice of 47 years". The foreshadowed 2-day conference and visit to the mosque is ON, Glenn has agreed to it, and the dates are 10 - 12 February 2017. We are expecting a large number of alumni from the Murcutt Master Classes since 2001 to come. We are hoping the conference, mosque visit will not be too expensive, and the plan is for everyone to look after their own accommodation plus travel. I will get more information out very soon once we work out the costs. Exciting.
